Tayug Resettlement Housing Project subjected to EGGA

A Memorandum of Agreement between the Mines and G eosceinces Bureau Region 1 represented by its Regional Director Carlos Tayag  and the  Local Government of Tayug, Pangasinan  was initiated to effect the conduct of Engineering, Geological and geohazard Assessment (EGGA) for the resettlement housing of said municipality. The assessment is aimed at identifying possible geologic hazards  that may  be present within the proposed project and recommend measures to prevent or minimize impacts of identified geohazards. It will be conducted by the geologists of the Bureau.

ISSUES ON MINING ELABORATED IN ILOCOS SUR

In a recent dialogue conducted with Hon. Ryan Luis Singson of the province of Ilocos Sur on August 26,  2014, DENR-MGB Region 1 shed light on mining  issues that are unpopular and misleading in the area.

CLIMATE CHANGE ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN LAUNCH IN REGION 1

The collaborative  efforts of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in the region paved the way to the successful launching of the Climate  Change Advocacy Campaign in the region. The campaign designed by the PIA-1 as the major partner of the DENR in such endeavor is guided  by the theme “ Nagbabago na ang Panahon, Panahon na para Magbago”.

Reported Landslide Verified by MGB 1

San Fernando City, La Union-The Mines and Geosciences Bureau -1 (MGB-1) verified the reported landslide by the PHIVOLCS in Brgy. Nagyubuyuban, San Fernando City, La Union on July 30, 2014. Phivolcs said that the area could be a dangerous landslide zone considering  the observed massive earth  movement.

DENR –MGB 1 HAS LINED-UP ACTIVITIES IN OBSERVANCE OF THE NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH

In consciousness with the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month this July following this year’s theme “Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan”, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) Region 1 bared the following activities aimed at raising public awareness especially among Local Government Units (LGU) and communities on the use, understanding and interpretation of geohazard maps as an important tool in disaster preparedness during calamities:

1st ONE MGB PHOTGRAPHY CONTEST ...a sound SUCCESS

In a bid to generate new and relevant  ideas and concepts about  “what is mining”  from  employees of the whole DENR Region 1, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Region 1 has launched the 1st ONE MGB PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST 2014. The competition was conctualized in view of the need to come up with more realistic and effective  materials that could be used in developing  new and relevant IEC materials purposely to  address the  still unpopular notion about  the industry.

DMR DELEGATES VISITED THE HUNDRED ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK

    Thirty delegates consisting of geologists and scientists from the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Thailand headed by Mr. Worasart Apaipong, Deputy Director General visited the Hundred Islands National Park last May 15, 2014. They were assisted by MGB Central Office personnel headed by Asst. Director Elmer B. Billedo and MGB I personnel headed by RD Carlos A. Tayag and representatives from the City of Alaminos, Pangasinan.

6th National Scout Venture Camp Held in Lingayen, Pangasinan

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Special Concerns Office (DENR-SCO) and the provincial Government of Pangasinan had  conducted the 6th National Scout Venture Camp on May 5-10 , 2014  in Lingayen, Pangasinan. The noble endeavor served as an opportunity for around 4,500 Scouts all over the Philippines to be part of the Global Development Village as one of the Modules in the said Camp.
